Towering over Detroit, proudly between Grand River Avenue and Cass Avenue is the Grand Army of the Republic Building — A historic fortress with a captivating past. Designed by architect Julius Hess, the Richardsonian Romanesque structure resembles a stone fortress, symbolized intricacy, strength and a strong desire to preserve. Over the century GAR witnessed various uses, from a recreation center to proposed redevelopments. Today, the historic building houses Castle Hall, preserving a piece of Detroit's rich heritage while adding your event as its next chapter.
